'Skyfall,' James Bond film No. 23, blessed by Vatican in newspaper review

A Vatican newspaper says "Skyfall" is one of the best James Bond movies among the 23 in the hit spy film series that have been produced in the past 50 years.

the Italian-language print and online outlet of the Catholic Church's Holy See, or government, said in a review published on October 31 that today's 007 agent,
played by returning star Daniel Craig, is "less cliche," and "less attracted by the pleasures of life, much darker and more introspective, less invulnerable
physically and psychologically, and therefore more human, capable of being moved and even cry - in a word, more real."

"Skyfall does not disappoint - the 23rd chapter is one of the most successful in the longest-running movie franchise in history," the review states.

"Skyfall" was released in the United Kingdom, where Bond is based, on October 23 and also received rave reviews from top movie critics, according to
Rottentomatoes.com, which gave it a 100 percent approval rating, as of Wednesday.

The outlet also calls Javier Bardem, who sports a blond wig while playing the villain Silva, "amazing," and praises the film for its "adrenaline-fueled action,"
"exotic locations" and "beautiful Bond girls," played by Bérénice Marlohe and Naomie Harris.

"Skyfall," also features Bond's boss M, played by Judi Dench, who is put in danger when the British Secret Intelligence Service headquarters is attacked.
Ralph Fiennes plays her boss, Gareth Mallory. The movie also sees the return of tech whiz Q, who had been missing from the two previous Bond films
that starred Craig as 007 - "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace." Q is played by Ben Whishaw.

"Skyfall" is directed by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. Filming took place in Turkey as well as Scotland, England and Shanghai, China.
It is the third franchise film for Craig, who played James Bond in the films "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace."

The new Bond film is set to hit theaters in the United States on November 9, almost 50 years after the release of the first James Bond film, "Dr. No,"
which was released in 1962 and starred Sean Connery.

"Skyfall" has already made $96.6 million. The first film starring Craig as Bond, "Casino Royale," has made $594 million since its 2006 release,
while the second, "Quantum of Solace," earned $586 million since it hit theaters in 2008, making it the highest-grossing Bond movie.

However, according to Boxofficemojo.com, following an adjustment of average ticket prices due to inflation, the title goes to the 1965 movie
"Thunderball," which starred Sean Connery as 007. The film made $63.5 million, which would be worth almost $600 million today.

Releases India - Box office @1st Nov 2012

TND,

Watched Skyfall yesterday, only die hard Bond fans will love, the stunts are less, not many chases, bit sentimental, and of course BOND GIRLS are missing the charm.....I though loved it, its a very different Bond don't watch with any other Bond in mind..

Viswaroopam

Today, watched the Tamil movie Viswaroopam in a theater in USA. Being a big fan of Kamal Haasan, I was waiting for this movie very eagerly. To describe about the movie, it is simply AWESOME. Never before I have seen an Indian movie this big and grand. It can easily compete with Hollywood movies in terms of technology. The whole story line revolves around USA and Afghanistan. There is no India anywhere in the movie . As usual, Kamal Haasan has acted brilliantly. Do I even need to explain about his acting? The story starts in New York, where Vishwanath (Kamal) is a Kathak Master. His wife Nirupama not living happily with Vishwanath has an affair with a colleague but she also suspects that her husband also have an affair with his student (Andrea). She hires a private detective to check this out. The detective follows Vishwanath and soon finds that he is not a Hindu but a Muslim. Things take dramatic and unexpected turns. The screenplay is brilliantly handled with no lag. All in all, it is a complete Action Flick from Kamal Haasan.

Note:- Regarding the controversy, I haven't felt any scene in the movie to be offensive to any community. In fact, there is no reference or portrayal of any community from India.

My Rating - 8/10

Thanks, Ramesh. My daughter says, Viswaroopam is released in Melbourne and running to packed houses. My son called me to inform that he enjoyed watching that movie at Urvashi, Bangalore. Poor souls in TN and Pondy missed such an awesome movie. It's hightime Kamal Hassan shifted to Hollywood so that we could enjoy watching his English movies without any hurdles.
There is no India anywhere in the movie.
My son mentioned that a title-card announcing Viswaroopam2 will continue in India was shown in the last scene when Omar escapes in a plane; it seems, Kamal Hassan has already shot Viswaroopam 2 too!

Great update Ramesh & thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Hope this movie gets released in Tamilnadu.

What is sad is many of the people who want the movie banned & not shown in India havent actually seen it at all & dont know.

I also believe Kamal has said the same thing. I saw a comment from our good friend Santhana aka Gokul Santhy from Qatar on facebook that it was released in Qatar and not in Tamil Nadu.

Well it is now even sad to see that most of the movie has been recorded by people & uploaded in the internet and it is being seen by many.

I have seen the movie Atlas Shrugged part -1, the movie is taken based on the novel “atlas shrugged” written by Ayn Rand a famous novelist. Her novels known for the philosophy called objectivism and this one was the last novel.

It revolves with many characters but the lead character is “Dagny taggart” who runs her family rail road business as vice president of Taggart Transcontinental & “Hank Rearden” who runs a Steel Factory and discovered new metal called Rearden Metal.

AynRand’s novels were recommended by my friend and after reading the novel “Fountain Head” I have become a fan of Ayn Rand. I am reading the Atlas shrugged and yet to complete.

the movie is taken in two parts and first part is released now, the movie wont be able to give the same feel as novel but its not like completely let down. The novel is very big and it will be tougher to get all in the movie.

I would recommend anyone to read the book and watch the movie. The fountain head also came as a movie long back.

I am not sure how many of here likes Ayn Rand.

for those who saw the tamil movie "manthira punnagai" the character of the hero was inspired by the novel "The Fountain head "

Not again teky! Not sure why you are so obsessed with this movie. I'm gonna watch it just because of your obsession for this movie.
