    Red face Bullet Baba

Not sure on how many of you already know about this. I first came to know about this few months back and though of sharing. This continues to amaze me

Om Banna (or Om Bana ki jai) is shrine near Jodhpur, India, devoted to a motorcycle god, also called Bullet Baba. It is located 50km away from Jodphur on the highway to Pali, near Chotila village. Hundreds of devotees turn up every day to pray for a safe journey, often bearing liquor. (Seems Bullet Beeer is the popular offering in there as shown in few TV shows).

    The History

Om Banaji (Shri Om Singh Rathore) was the son of a village leader. In 1991, he drove into a tree, and his motorcycle fell into a ditch, killing him on the spot. The motorcycle was seized by local police and taken to the police station, but was found the next morning at the accident spot. They then removed the bike again, this time securing it with chains, but it was moved the next morning again.

The tree itself remains ornamented with offerings of bangles, scarves and rope. The temple even has its own priest, Poonam Giri, who has been in charge of the upkeep of the shrine for two decades.

I also saw a show on this on a TV channel where the locals claim that people passing through this way will stop over to pray at the shrine or atleast honk while passing over. They also claim few incidents where Bullet Baba had appeared to help those who were involved in an accident in those roads!

Well, I seriously don't know whether to laugh or not.

Its kinda weird and sometime can't stop laughing at people's stupidity on praying each and everything.

Reminds me of the Gobar BaBa - The Character from Run Hindi Movie.

in fact we had we had a plan to visit this place in our bikes in 2009, due to other commitments it got dropped. One of my friend told me that People from the villages and travelers till date stop by and seek Bullet Baba's blessings and protection they believe that the Bullet Baba really protect.
Visit to this place is always there in the Ride calender of Royal Enfield when ever they organise a ride in Rajasthan. Almost all the business places have this photos

    Hi Anandh,

This is simply amazing. Never knew about this. Quite interesting story too.

Now whether the Bullet really moved back on its own or not what has happened is that it is a local folklore & belief. So it is left to anybody to believe it or not.

We come across so many such things from all across the world.

Many of us have heard of Baba Harbhajan Singh in Nathula Pass. Let me take you from one Baba to another Baba

Harbhajan Singh was born into a Sikh family on August 3, 1941 in the village of Batthe Bhaini in Punjab (India).

He completed his preliminary schooling at village school, and then did his matriculation from DAV High School in Patti in March 1955.

In June 1956 he enrolled himself as a soldier in Amritsar and joined the Corps of Signals.

On June 30, 1965 was granted a commission and posted to the 14 Rajput regiment. During the 1965 Indo-Pakistan war he served as an Adjutant of his unit. Later he was transferred to 18 Rajput. It was with this regiment that he met his end on October 4, 1965 in Sikkim.

A shrine was built at his samādhi, at an elevation of around 4,000 metres (13,123 ft).

According to army folklore, (now look at this before laughing again the entire Indian Army Believes in this folklore too) Baba is a stickler for discipline and is known to admonish those who do not toe this line.

A camp bed is kept for him and his boots are polished and uniform kept ready every night. The sheets are reportedly crumpled every morning and boots muddy by evening. The Major continues to draw a salary and takes his annual leave. (What can be more interesting than this?)

According to legend, Major Harbhajan Singh drowned in a glacier following the 1962 Sino-Indian War in 1968 while escorting a column of mules to a remote outpost. He was the first casualty of the 23rd Punjab Regiment, and a manhunt was launched to find him.

He was found after three days and cremated with full military honours.

According to legend, it was Major Harbhajan Singh who led the search party to his body, and later, through a dream, instructed one of his colleagues to build and maintain a shrine after him.

Legend also has it that in the event of a war between India and China, Baba would warn the Indian soldiers three days in advance.

During the flag meetings between the two nations at Nathula, the Chinese set a chair aside for the saint. (Now can you believe even Chinese also believing in such things?)

Every year on September 14, a jeep departs with his personal belongings to the nearest railway station, New Jalpaiguri, where it is then sent by train to the village of Kuka, in Kapurthala district in Punjab.

As per train rule the train reserved seat never left blank, but for Baba reservation is done to travel him at his home town every year with soldiers to drop Baba at his home town. A small sum is also sent to his mother each month.

India sure is a country where we will find more & more such interesting thing that will be left to individuals to believe or not or whether to laugh or cry at such beliefs. While passing through Bikaner I visited the World Famous Karni Mata Temple which is dedicated to RATS can you believe 100s of RATS being fed food, milk, sweets whatever you want daily

The only similarity between Baba Harbhajan Singh and myself is that we both share same birthday

I have heard about the RATS being worshiped and people from various places do come here to feed these RATS.

That is a good one Munna BABA.

As for seeing the RATS being fed just go to mn-h2h-2k2k blogspot.in and see my Highway to Himalays Blog. As Dr.Sunil commented the RATS are well behaved & very orderly like NCC cadets all waiting in a line feeding on milk. Worth seeing it.
