Not sure on how many of you already know about this. I first came to know about this few months back and though of sharing. This continues to amaze me
Om Banna (or Om Bana ki jai) is shrine near Jodhpur, India, devoted to a motorcycle god, also called Bullet Baba. It is located 50km away from Jodphur on the highway to Pali, near Chotila village. Hundreds of devotees turn up every day to pray for a safe journey, often bearing liquor. (Seems Bullet Beeer is the popular offering in there as shown in few TV shows).
The History
Om Banaji (Shri Om Singh Rathore) was the son of a village leader. In 1991, he drove into a tree, and his motorcycle fell into a ditch, killing him on the spot. The motorcycle was seized by local police and taken to the police station, but was found the next morning at the accident spot. They then removed the bike again, this time securing it with chains, but it was moved the next morning again.
The tree itself remains ornamented with offerings of bangles, scarves and rope. The temple even has its own priest, Poonam Giri, who has been in charge of the upkeep of the shrine for two decades.
I also saw a show on this on a TV channel where the locals claim that people passing through this way will stop over to pray at the shrine or atleast honk while passing over. They also claim few incidents where Bullet Baba had appeared to help those who were involved in an accident in those roads!
