    Re: Leh 2014

After a lot of bargaining and muscle flexing both me and my better half have got our leaves approved.

So if nothing else pops up its ugly head we should be heading for this trip as planned

    Dear Flywheel,

I will suggest do not miss the flag retreat ceremony.

It is an experience to be experienced in person. No amount of watching it in TV will give you the real feel for it.

There are 2 places you can in fact watch this. The timing is sharp & it starts & you can watch all the action & it concludes also soon. It is better to be early so that you get seats & be in the front for watching all the action.

    Ferozpur - Hussainiwalla Border
    Amritser - Wagha Border.

There will be a lot of trucks on the road from Amritser to Wagha Border waiting to cross the border.

Jalandhar is about 90 Kms away from Amritser / Wagha Border.

Happy to note that your leaves are clear & wish you all the very best for the upcoming Trip.

FIAT will handle anything don't worry.

    Re: Leh 2014

Have been in touch with Chief (HVK) and after a couple of discussions we have come up with this plan. A big thank you to Chief for patiently listening to all that I want to accomplish and providing a route guide with astounding amount of information

    1 Pune - Vapi 28-Aug 311
    2 Vapi- Udaipur 29-Aug 540
    3 Udaipur - Kishangarh 30-Aug 364
    4 Kishangarh - Amritsar 31-Aug 741
    5 Amritsar - Srinagar 01-Sep 543
    6 Srinagar-Kargil 02-Sep 215
    7 Kargil-Leh 03-Sep 239
    8 Leh 04-Sep
9 Leh (Ktop and back) 05-Sep
    10 Leh-Pangong 06-Sep 160
    11 Pangong -Tso Moriri 07-Sep 290
    12 Tso Moriri - Tso Kar 08-Sep 40
    13 Tso Kar-Debring-Keylong 09-Sep 264
    14 Keylong-Manali-Ropar 10-Sep 452
    15 Ropar-Jaipur 11-Sep 595
    16 Jaipur 12-Sep
    17 Jaipur-Dhule 13-Sep 847
    18 Dhule - Pune 14-Sep 329
    Total 5930

I had to make some compromises with the places and things we wanted to see due to a paucity of time and other personal commitments!

    Re: Leh 2014

    Dear Tejus,

Have a relook at your plan for Day 1 & 2. You can re-discuss with H V Kumar Sir.

You have on Day 1 28th Aug Pune - Vapi = 311 kms & on 29th Aug Vapi to Udaipur = 540 KMs. Total 851 KMs

If you have an early morning start at 5 AM you can do Pune Vapi in 6 hours and Vapi to Udaipur in 10 hours in 1 go.

Roads are just awesome from MH through Gujarat all the way to Rajasthan.

It will of course be close to 17 hour drive provided you are game. You can gain 1 day.

JFYKI on 26.12.2012 I did Lonavala MH - Udaipur RJ = 888 KMs that too after stopping at HVK Sir's residence & spending a lot of quality time with HVK Sir at his residence and leaving his residence at around 11.45 AM, I spent around close to 2 hours with HVK sir, I reached Udaipur at mid night 12.20.

    Mn ji,

I am leaving on 28th evening after work around 6 PM and hence we decided to halt in Vapi for the night which I am hoping to reach at least by 12.

Even of Day 3, the target is Kishangarh since I plan to spend the day with my father as it is his 60th birthday! so I plan on leavening around 4 PM and halt in Kishangarh for the night! I should have added the timing as well to make it clear.

Will be adding the entire plan in a few days after I am able to digest all the information that HVK ji has passed on to me.

    Re: Leh 2014

    Hi Tejus,

I get it. You are leaving after work.

For heavens sake do not start at or after 6 PM from Pune city. City traffic will be at its peak & congested. It will take you at least 1 & 1/2 to 2 hours to get out of the city itself.

You will loose precious time & it will also drain you.

Try to leave office (both of you in such a way that you are home by 3 PM.

Remember all the packing should be completed previous day itself and no last minute packing or have we missed anything etc. Ensure that your check list is solid that will keep track of major & minor things and everything should be in the car 1 day in advance.

So at 4 PM it is just pray to the GODs at home and start, stop at a Ganeshji's temple & break a coconut & start the long journey.

Leave Pune city by 4 PM and be out of city by 1 hour. I am sure your father will be happy to see you with your kid.

Point noted MNji, Whenever I plan to leave work by 3PM something comes which needs urgent resolution I think its jinxed

    MNji no kids at yet!

Had a nice chat with Anupamji just now, he has offered all the help needed for the trip. A heartfelt thank you to all of you for making this happen!
