Re: How can I replace the damaged boot

    Dear Navin Sir,

I am not sure if it is an easy task or not on palio. I did that recently on my CRV
I had to do the following

    Remove axle nut
Remove the strut bolt attached to knuckle (may not be needed for palio)
    Remove the knuckle
    Detach the steering tie rod
Remove the CV axle outer end out of the hub/knuckle

Now there could be two options
Either pull the cv axle fully out including the in ward joint or
try to cut the inner rubber boot alone and pull the axle excluding the connection to transmission.
the second option could be hard to put the clips back in

You might need boot clamp pliers

    or
    https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-Drake-O.../dp/B0002SREPY
    or both
What I would say is to just get the first one and use a band clip on both sides.

Here is a video on how some one could make band plier if you don't want to buy.

The other thing need would be high temperature grease.
This you can probably get from the service center of fiat or may be maruti
you will have to buy the boot as well.

Sorry for the amazon.com links there could be similar items found in local shops

    Dear Shri George S ji,
Thanks for the quick and sharp reply along with the reference links.
I shell check the difference in mechanism between your CRV and my Palio.
Meanwhile, could you send me some pics of the work you did?
Kindly also mention the product's name of the high temp grease which I should use and in what quantity?
Once again " thanks" a lot.

Re: How can I replace the damaged boot

    Friends,
The actual situation is as shown in the picture.
To replace the rubber boot comfortable, I must remove the axle first. The wheel side end can easily be made free br removing wheel, axle nut, tie rod bolt, lowewr arm bolt and knucle.
My confusion is about how to remove the other end, i.e. the end linked inward side toward gear box differential.
It is mentioned in the picture. Please guide me in detail.

    Hi Navin ji,

I have seen video of few vehicles and per my understanding once you remove the axle nut knuckle etc and get the CV outer joint out then just pull the CV Axle and it should brake loose from the transmission and should come out. there might be a snap ring on the end which is inside the transmission in that case you might have to rotate the axle a bit clockwise and counter clockwise to get the ring out. Also You could use a small pry bar between the cast iron metal piece of the cv axle and the transmission and pry slowly which could also brake loose.

In my crv case once side came of easily other side was stuck and hard to come out so I put in new boots keeping that cast iron piece in place.

Regarding grease honda has an yellow grease which is sold in service center. Please note the grease of outer joint and inner are different for most of the cars the inner ones can handle more heat and handles rotational motions. the outer needs some rotational and kind translational motion. I think you should be able to buy those greases from a maruti service center as well chemical property wise it should be very close. During re filling please note that the existing grease is removed and the parts completely cleaned so as to remove any dirt to avoid future problems

You should use a pry bar at the end of the green arrow in your picture.

Looking at the space we have on palios I think we can do an in place boot replacement. for doing that just cut the current boot off after making the out side end free of the cv axle the axle will come out. Please be careful not to loose any bearing and other components inside the boot. Hold a cloth or so below the boot when you cut it off and then take the boot out.

Re: How can I replace the damaged boot

    Friends,
I have done the theoretical home work at my best about the captioned drive shafts linkages and connections with other components in the car. Ofcourse, may not be perfectly true but to the best of my knowledge and efforts, I feel it very close to real situation. Any deviations in the situation or judgement couild be rectified or resolved while actually doing the DIY job in the matter.

I upload the picture which itself is a self-explainetary, so ?am not nerrating it here but shell proceed in DIY of the issue.

Update will be posted, meanwhile your valued feed back (if any) will be appreciated.
